Monotone / Monochrome
color/drone/notation
2023.07.15. - 07.31.

Gergő Sós is the dreamer and creator of MONOTON/MONOKROM. The form is based on cross-sectional images of the structural and topographic patterns of the Balaton and Balaton Uplands. Another important aspect is that the GPS coordinates of the given location can be converted to the Hz range. Thus, a sound recorded in the appropriate Hz range, looped, distorted or modulated according to the given topographic pattern, gives the monotone/monochrome impression of the given location. As the name of the project suggests, monotone/monochrome builds on a suggestive, static and serial system and the lack of surface and tonal patterns, narrative and time markers that I have examined. The notations are accompanied by textual performance notes. These help the performers to situate themselves in this large-scale sound formation in the form of suggestions.
Thus, operating as a closed system, any point on the earth can be displayed and played. A color and its tones and a sound and its harmonics are timeless and can be received regardless of cultural environment and knowledge brought, and can be experienced through visible environmental forms.
